The Charleville Bilby Experience offers two unique opportunities for visitors to meet a bilby.

The Bilby Experience (April to October)

The Charleville Bilby Experience has been running for many years with shows held Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights during April to October.  Learn all about the bilby from what they eat, where they sleep, their breeding cycle and why they’ve been given various body parts and how they use them.

Watch a short movie about Pete McRae’s and Frank Manthey’s tremendous efforts to help conserve this delightful creature.  After the movie you’ll see the bilbies in their caged enclosure, doing what comes naturally to them.  Shows normally last around an hour and the volunteer guides are more then happy to answer any of your questions.

The Up Close and Personal Encounter (All year round)

The Up Close and Personal Experience offers that little bit extra.  Running on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10am, with numbers limited to 10 persons.  We’ll talk about the bilbies characteristics, breeding cycles and anatomy and you have the opportunity to get up close and personal to the bilby the guide is holding.  Unfortunately you will not be able to touch the bilby, due to the possibility of germs being passed on, but you will be enthralled by the beauty of these animals in such a close proximity.

You will be led on a guided tour to the breeding pens where you’ll see exactly how their burrowing systems work and just how much digging these little creatures can do.  After this you will have the opportunity to watch a short movie about Pete McRae’s and Frank Manthey’s tremendous efforts to conserve the bilby.
